Collection: XX EXTRA CHINOS

This product has been created using Sally Fox organic cotton, a special organic material that has passed the standards of the world's strictest organic certification organizations, while pursuing the color and texture of vintage U.S. Army chinos.
The roots of cotton are naturally colored, with a natural brown hue. The cotton commonly used today has been bred to be white to facilitate dyeing. During the process of modifying the ancient brown cotton to white, a mutation occurred, resulting in green cotton.
Generally, yarn is dyed at the stage of thread making, but this material uses the natural color of the cotton without dyeing it.
Because it is naturally produced, the surface of the fabric contains cotton leaves, shells, and stems, which is evidence that the raw cotton was harvested by hand and used as unprocessed as possible.

In the process of making yarn from this rich-textured organic U.S. cotton, we use the oldest spinning machine in Japan, manufactured in 1953. Spinning slowly reduces stress on the cotton, resulting in yarn with a natural unevenness and fluffiness similar to hand-spun yarn. The starch used for the necessary glue in weaving is naturally derived, and we strive to minimize wastewater and consider the environment.

Using old-style power looms (shuttle looms) from the early Showa era, we weave slowly and densely. The unique tension of the warp threads and the tension and relaxation of the weft threads created by the shuttle moving back and forth produce a distinctive uneven texture.

The color also changes with environmental variations such as sunlight hours and temperature differences during the raw cotton harvest year, making it impossible to create exactly "the same thing." Over time, exposure to sunlight and moisture can deepen or lighten the color, allowing you to enjoy a patina similar to that of leather.

Thus, tracing the roots of cotton, spinning machines, and looms, with immense time, the delicate skills of Japanese craftsmen, and an unwavering pride in craftsmanship have converged!
In 2023, the rare "EXTRA CHINOS" were completed.
