ISHIKAWADAI Denim “SUVIN GOLD” takes BIG JOHN’s Japanese denim craftsmanship into an exceptionally refined territory. This premium Made in Japan denim jacket is crafted from 100% SUVIN GOLD, a globally scarce extra-long staple cotton from India.
The cotton is slowly spun on a vintage Ishikawadai ring spinning frame dating from 1953, creating yarn with natural irregularity, softness, and depth. The yarn is then rope-dyed with pure indigo and woven into 14 oz selvedge denim on vintage shuttle looms.
The result combines the smooth hand and subtle luster of SUVIN GOLD with the textured, slightly rugged character expected from authentic Japanese denim. With wear, the indigo gradually fades while the surface develops distinctive creases, texture, and character unique to the wearer.
This denim jacket is sold after a single wash to make it easier to wear from the first day while preserving the character of the unsanforized fabric.
With continued wear and washing, the denim will develop natural indigo fading, surface hairiness, creases, and subtle twisting that reflect the original character of the fabric.

The blend combines first- and second-pick SUVIN GOLD cotton with SUVIN GOLD cotton waste. This preserves the fiber’s characteristic softness and subtle luster while adding natural hairiness and a more rugged denim texture.
Its slow spinning speed places less stress on the cotton fibers and creates a fuller yarn with natural irregularity and a distinctive vintage character.
The naturally colored cotton weft gives the denim a subtle warm, slightly brown cast that contributes to its vintage-inspired appearance.
This allows the fabric to retain natural hairiness, torque, puckering, and irregularities as it ages. The finished jacket is then given a single RINSE / ONE WASH before sale.
Because this denim is unsanforized and unskewed, dimensional changes may vary depending on washing and drying conditions.
