ISHIKAWADAI Denim “SUVIN GOLD” – WIDE combines one of the world’s rare extra-long staple cottons with vintage Japanese machinery and BIG JOHN craftsmanship.
Made from 100% Indian SUVIN GOLD cotton, the yarn is slowly spun on a vintage Ishikawadai ring spinning frame built in 1953. This low-speed process preserves the cotton’s smooth hand and subtle luster while creating the natural irregularity and texture associated with vintage denim.
The yarn is rope-dyed with pure indigo and woven on vintage shuttle looms into 14 oz selvedge denim. A naturally colored weft with a subtle warm cast adds depth and a vintage-inspired appearance.
The wide silhouette provides generous room from the waist and seat through the thigh and knee, creating substantial volume while maintaining a clean, contemporary balance. With wear, the denim develops natural hairiness, creases, twisting, and distinctive indigo fading.
These jeans are washed once before sale, making them easier to wear from the first day while preserving the character of the unsanforized denim.
With continued wear and washing, the fabric will develop natural indigo fading, surface texture, creases, and subtle twisting unique to the wearer.

First- and second-pick SUVIN GOLD cotton is blended with SUVIN GOLD cotton waste, combining the fiber’s characteristic softness and subtle luster with natural hairiness and a more rugged denim texture.
Its slow spinning speed reduces stress on the cotton fibers and produces a fuller yarn with natural irregularity and distinctive vintage character.
The naturally colored cotton weft has a subtle warm, slightly brown cast that gives the denim additional depth and a vintage-inspired appearance.
This allows natural hairiness, torque, puckering, and irregularities to develop with wear. The finished jeans are then given a single RINSE / ONE WASH before sale.

The pocket bags use heavyweight 10 oz olive oxford fabric inspired by the color of the Ishikawadai spinning machine.

The vegetable-tanned cowhide leather patch is embossed with BIG JOHN’s “Four Crown” design, featuring a world map and cotton motif. A “SUVIN COTTON 100%” label identifies the exceptional cotton used in these jeans.
Original Flasher
The original paper flasher features imagery inspired by cotton harvesting in India, reflecting the origins of SUVIN cotton.
